Won a scholarship to Leeds School of Art where she first met Henry Moore who was also a student there
1921
Awarded a county major scholarship to study sculpture at the Royal College of Art, London
1923
Awarded the diploma of the Royal College of Art
1924
Visited Italy to study Romanesque and Early Renaissance sculpture and the technique of marble carving from master-carver Ardini
1926
Returned to London and set up studio in St. Ann's Terrace, St John's Wood
1927
Arranged an exhibition of carvings at the studio in St John's Wood
1928
First solo exhibition at the Beaux Arts Gallery, London. Moved to Hampstead where she remained until 1939
1930
Holidays in Happisburgh, Norfolk, with husband John Skeaping, Henry Moore and the painter Ivon Hitchens
1931
Returns to Happisburgh on vacation with the Moores, Hitchens and second husband Ben Nicholson. Carves her first Pierced Form (Abstraction)
1932
Joint exhibition with Nicholson at Arthur Tooth & Sons' Gallery, London
1933
Visits Paris and St. Remy de Provence with Nicholson, where she met Picasso, Braque, Brancusi and Sophie Tauber-Arp. Then in Paris met Jean Helion, Mondrian and Brancusi again. Invited by Herbin and Helion to become a member of the Abstraction-Creation group

Founding member of Unit One, London
1935
In Paris met Mondrian, Kandinsky and Naum Gabo. Work began on the book Circle
1936
Met Arp in London at the time of the International Surrealists exhibition. The Museum of Modern Art, New York, acquired its first Hepworth

Helped Mondrian to find a studio flat close to her and Nicholson in Hampstead
1939
On August 25 moved to St. Ives, Cornwall, a week before the outbreak of war. Naum Gabo moved to St. Ives at the same time

Commissioned to draw for Kathleen Raines Stone and Flower Poems 1935-1943 Moved to a larger house in Curbis Bay with a studio and garden that Hepworth could work in

Invited by the London County Council in a limited competition to produce maquettes for four scuptures at the ends of Waterloo Bridge. First post-war solo show at Alex Reid & Lefevre, London

Retrospective exhibition held in native town of Wakefield. Served on committee of second LCC open-air exhibition of sculpture, held in Battersea Park

Awarded 2nd prize in Unknown Political Prisoner competition, organised by the Institute of Contemporary Arts, London. Carved Monolith (Empyrean) for the London County Council, to be placed outside the Festival Hall on Londons South Bank
